    Brief Introduction
Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (TUMSAT) was created in October 2003 with the merger of Tokyo University of Mercantile Marine and Tokyo University of Fisheries to become the only one Japanese university dedicated to education and research in the marine and fisheries field science and technologies concerning oceans. We aim to become one of the world’s greatest universities that can produce international leaders for the industrial, governmental and academic sectors.

    Education and Research Aim
To carry out basic and applied education and research activities related to studies and to science and technologies concerning oceans, with a view to contributing to sustainable development of human society. It is necessary for TUMSAT, the only maritime ocean university in Japan, to serve as a core educational and research base for “learning about the sea in order to preserve its integrity and put it to responsible use” and to perform its missions, so that our country may develop as a maritime ocean nation and play a role as an international contributor. Based on this platform, TUMSAT will conduct comprehensive education and research concerning the oceans, centering on training for highly skilled business professionals, including researchers, in order to foster development of human resources.
